Avril Lavigne checked in with fans on her official web site on Sunday (January 31), talking about how her new single ‘Alice’ came about. The Canadian pop rock singer tells readers:
I just wanted to check in and share a bit of what’s going on with me right now. I am so excited! I feel very lucky to be a part of Tim Burton’s new film Alice In Wonderland.
It all started off with me designing an Abbey Dawn/Alice In Wonderland collaboration for my fashion line at Kohls. I was working at the Disney offices going though graphic images from the movie for my designs and getting up to speed on the movie project. I was really inspired and excited about the film at that moment, so I asked Disney if they would like me to write the theme song for the film. They went back to Tim and he said yeah give it a go.
I was so excited when I got the news! I sat down on my piano immediately and wrote the song.

Afternoon. Been trapesing around the country interview after interview – where did the Avril Lavigne thing come from? Manager eats salads only and I can’t sleep due to heavy snoring beside me – great. Flying to Glasgow tonight and tomorrow I will be reunited with the band – cannot wait. MySpace Music unveiled the first single from the upcoming ‘Almost Alice’ soundtrack. MySpace users can stream the song ‘Follow Me Down’ from 3OH!3 via myspace.com/3oh3. In the coming weeks, MySpace will continue to premiere songs from the soundtrack as well as hosting the full album stream leading up to the film’s release.

Avril Lavigne Saddened By Earthquake In Haiti
Avril Lavigne updated fans on her official web site on Friday (January 15), reacting to Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti. The Canadian pop singer writes:
Hi Everyone,
I am saddened by the news of death and devastation coming out of Haiti. What a horrible tragedy. Haiti is just a few hundred miles from the US, and even before this catastrophe, most Haitians lived in extreme poverty. This small country has had to endure so much already… and now this. It is times like these where we should stand up, pay attention and give help where we can. As I have said before, even the smallest of actions have an impact. To all the aid workers on the ground – thank you. My heart goes out to all Haitians in their time of need.

Avril Lavigne Files For Divorce
According to TMZ, Avril Lavigne has made it official, filing for divorce from Deryck Whibley, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Avril says in court documents the couple have been separated since September 4th. The Canadian pop rock singer won’t be asking for spousal support, and indicated in the filing she doesn’t want to have to pay the Sum 41 frontman any money.
Lavigne confirmed on her official site on September 18th that she and Deryck had separated, telling fans, “I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.”

Avril Lavigne has confirmed her marriage to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has ended. The Canadian pop rock singer told her friends on MySpace on Thursday (September 17):
Deryck and I have been together for 6 and a half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.
