Shakira: The People Of Haiti Need Our Help
Shakira sent out the following message earlier today in reaction to Tuesday’s magnitude 7.0 earthquake outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti:
The destruction and loss of life in Haiti causes us all to take stock in what is really important. This small country has endured so much – more than its fair share of tragedy. I can’t imagine the devastation that has struck an already weakened infrastructure. Critical services needed for recovery, such as schools and hospitals, have been destroyed.
The people of Haiti need our help immediately. Money will be needed to provide urgent emergency relief and I urge everyone who can afford to help to either donate to UNICEF’s emergency relief fund at www.unicef.org or text the word YELE to 501501 on your U.S. cell phone (this will charge your phone $5 – it will go to Wyclef Jean’s foundation which is playing a major role in the relief effort. We must all act. As a global community, we must be part of the recovery of Haiti and its people.

Shakira performed a cover of the 1953 Christmas classic ‘Santa Baby’ during NBC’s ‘Christmas In Rockefeller Center’ Special, posting it at her YouTube channel. “Hey guys. I just want to wish you all a very happy Christmas and thank you for all your support in what has been an amazing year for me,” the Colombian pop singer writes. “I look forward to seeing you on the road in 2010!” Watch it below.

Esmee Denters checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace on Tuesday (November 10), discussing her attendance at the MTV Europe Music Awards, where the Dutch pop singer took home Best European Act. Esmee writes:
I was so excited to get all dressed up. My stylist and I picked out this really nice D&G outfit with the cutest, but most painful, shoes I have ever worn. I knew a lot of the artists at the EMA’s would be wearing dresses, so I wore this really beautiful tailored suit.
When I arrived to the awards, I got to walk the red carpet. I felt really glamorous, but kind of silly at the same time. People are screaming your name, taking pictures, and sometimes asking weird questions. One of the interviewers on the red carpet wanted me to sing a Tokio Hotel song on the spot, haha! I’m sorry to say that I don’t know any of the lyrics to their songs. After the red carpet, I was ready to see the show. Katy Perry presented the awards just like last year, and she had some pretty fabulous outfits. There were performances by Green Day, Leona Lewis, Shakira, U2, and Jay-Z. Of course the highlight of the show for me was the always amazing Beyonce, working that stage like she always does. It seems like she just can’t do wrong.
