Nicky Byrne Offered Radio Job Once Westlife Duties Conclude

FM104 programme director Dave Kelly spoke with Metro Herald about how they would welcome Nicky Byrne to the Dublin radio station in wake of news that will be soon breaking up after a farewell tour. “Down through the years, we at FM104 have had a very amicable relationship with and especially Nicky, seeing as he is a local lad,” Kelly said. “It’s unfortunate that Nicky will soon be out of a job, and given his obvious popularity with Dubliners a move to work for us would be an ideal platform for him to pursue a new career.”

Westlife To Split Up After ‘Greatest Hits’ Tour

released a statement Wednesday confirming that they are splitting up after 14 years together. Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan have confirmed that the Irish boy band will break up following their ‘Greatest Hits’ tour and album release. ‘Greatest Hits’ is out November 21st on Sony Music.

A statement from the Irish boyband reads:

After 14 years, 26 top ten hits including 14 number one singles, 11 top 5 albums, 7 of which hit the top spot and have collectively sold over 44 million copies around the world, 10 sell out tours and countless memories that we will forever cherish, we today announce our plan to go our separate ways after a greatest hits collection this Christmas and a farewell tour next year.

The decision is entirely amicable and after spending all of our adult life together so far, we want to have a well-earned break and look at new ventures.

We see the greatest hits collection and the farewell tour as the perfect way to celebrate our incredible career along with our fans. We are really looking forward to getting out on the tour and seeing our fans one last time.

Over the years Westlife has become so much more to us than just a band. Westlife are a family. We would like to thank our fans who have been with us on this amazing journey and are part of our family too.

We never imagined when we started out in 1998 that 14 years later we would still be recording, touring and having hits together. It has been a dream come true for all of us.

Jedward Share Their Excitement After Meeting President Obama

John and Edward Grimes, better known as Jedward, checked in with their Twitter followers (@planetjedward) on Monday (May 23) after meeting President Obama on his trip to Ireland earlier in the day. The Irish twins, who competed in ‘The X Factor’ in 2009, joined in performing for the president before giving a speech at College Green in Dublin. The 19-year-olds write:

But there’s a warning from me, if anyone hurts her they’re dead.”

Delta Goodrem And Brian McFadden Split

and released a statement via their publicist announcing that the pair have ended their 6 1/2 year relationship:

Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden regretfully announce that they are no longer engaged, and after much consideration, have mutually decided to end their relationship.

This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realization that they have grown apart. They leave the partnership with respect for one and other, wishing each other success and happiness for the future.

Delta and Brian appreciate there will be interest regarding this announcement but request that their time together is respected and they are given privacy during this time of transition.

The former star told his Twitter followers (@brianmcfadden) in reaction to the news:

Brian McFadden Pulls New Single Over Date Rape Promotion Claims

checked in with his Twitter followers (@BrianMcFadden) moments ago, horrified by the reaction to his new single ‘Just The Way You Are (Drunk At The Bar)’, with many suggesting that the track promotes date rape. The song includes the lyrics, “I like you just the way you are, drunk as sh**, dancing at the bar” and “can’t wait to get you home so I can do some damage, can’t wait to get you home and take advantage.”

The former star Tweeted yesterday:

My new song is a tongue in cheek song about how I find it cute when my girl gets drunk… I am not promoting date-rape.

What’s the next thing I am going to be labeled as from things I say. Super intelligent reaction to my song. Wish I was as clever as them

And yes it is dumb lyrics and a dumb beat…. that was the point!!!! When did I ever claim to be John Lennon?

And earlier this morning:

Feel sick that my single is getting so much attention for the wrong reason. I love making music but I do not want this song played on radio or being sold to profit myself if people think it’s about “date rape”. It’s not about date rape. I’m gonna give all my profits from the song to victims of rape. Because it disgusts me. Sorry people misunderstood my lyrics. Someone let me know a worthy charity who supports victims.

and finally…. my song is supposed to be fun… not offensive……. guess not everyone has the same sense of humor

This is not a publicity stunt… so don’t think I’m backing down and agreeing. I just wouldn’t give the haters the pleasure. x

Brian McFadden Denies Smoking During Flight

has denied smoking on a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney. Initial reports said the former singer was arrested after being abusive to flight attendants who had asked him not to smoke. McFadden responded to the allegations on Twitter (@BrianMcFadden):

Wasn’t arrested! Didn’t smoke on the flight. And the Virgin staff were very nice. I did have a few drinks but I was not smashed and abusive

The only crime Kyle and I committed yesterday was wearing matching tracksuits. The fashion police arrested us. Looked like Kath and Kim

Brian McFadden Dreams About Returning To Westlife

Shane Filan told The Sun “I don’t think it’s even remotely interesting if Brian came back” and that they aren’t interested in Brian returning to the veteran Irish boy band, which he quit in 2004. Brian writes:

I had a dream tonight I was back on stage with Westlife playing some crazy sized football stadium. I’m not gonna lie! I woke up smiling

If I’m to be honest yes I would love to do an album with boys and show JLS and Take That what we are really made of!

If the boys wanna challenge these newcomers I am always up for a fight. They know where. I am. Armed and ready to reclaim glory!

The reason I’m feeling like this is I watch my boys release an incredible emotive song and video and it play third fiddle to average

When will folk them the credit they deserve. They are not ‘X Factor’ band. They hard working creative machine who sacrificed a lot to get here

They will always be my brothers. No matter what happens I will support them until the day they hang up the mics.

For the record I’m not reuniting with Westlife! Not at all! Just having an angry rant for the boys

Markus Feehily Responds To Westlife Tour Schedule Concerns

Markus Feehily checked in with his Twitter followers (@MarkusFeehily) earlier today, talking about ’s upcoming tour and responding to the fans who were upset that the veteran boy band wasn’t traveling to their particular town. Markus writes:

Excited about our new tour, can’t wait to play Wembley again that place has such a great vibe, also new album going great so far:all good x

We will definitely be playing Dublin and Belfast too, I’m sure the details will be announced soon

Lots of emotions flying round since the new tour was announced

We don’t plan tours around making money we tour when it makes sense to tour taking album promo and recording plus other commitments into account

Also, we would love nothing more than to go to every country & gig regardless of amount of fans, but it’s not realistic guys I’m sorry

I want to tour again in EVERY country and go to new ones like Russia for instance but we haven’t got any offers to play there

One things I’ve learned about pop music and our fans and different territories is that its impossible to keep EVERY1 happy which is a shame

So instead of making tough decisions like deciding where to tour/promote, we leave it up to our promoter & label cuz it’d be impossible to choose

No matter what song we release/set list we perform/venue we play at, there will be someone somewhere left out or annoyed, unfortunately :(

So we strive to do what we think is best and feels right, thanks for listening, over and out x
