Britney Spears Is Talented

Contributed by Potpot:

I’m going straight to the point. If you are intellectual enough, you might understand what I am saying. Yes, Britney Spears is talented. If you are intellectual enough, you would agree that the main problem in trying to evaluate whether Britney Spears indeed has the gifts of an artist is the conventional definition of musical talent which states that an artist is talented if he/she can write a song, do something innovative, or sing without studio aid. Most opinions are firmly rooted in such a vague definition of musical ingenuity.

The Princess Is Now The Queen

Contributed by Potpot:

After Britney Spears went up the silver staircase and finished her reptile-headlined performance during the 2001 VMA, everything went downhill for the supposed pop princess. All her singles from her third album flopped, thus, her album itself even failed to sell half of what her previous efforts sold. Her debut movie didn’t do well as expected from a ‘pop superstar.’ So-many a time she was reported to have been booed by her fans, flashing a middle-finger, being drunk, or just crying over her ‘historic’ break-up with Justin Timberlake. It seemed over for Ms. Britney Spears. After all the backlash and failures, all Ms. Spears can do was to call a hiatus and walk away from the spotlight.

‘Toxic’ May Give Britney Spears Her Long-Awaited Follow-Up Hit

Contributed by Potpot:

The way ‘Toxic’ is moving up the radio charts could spell No.1 for Britney Spears, who has, since ‘Baby One More Time’ in 1999, been hitting and missing in the American radio market.

Since ‘Baby…’, Spears has failed to deliver even a Top 7 hit in Billboard Hot 100. ‘Oops! I Did It Again’ was the closest Spears ever got to grab the top spot again. ‘Oops…!’ peaked at a decent No.9. Single after single, thereafter, Britney’s singles continued to unimpress, chart-wise that is. While her rival Christina Aguilera continued to invade the No.1 spot, 4 times to be exact, Britney Spears seemed to be satisfied with a Top 40 hit. Even her much-hyped collaboration with Madonna only managed to hit at No.35.

Pop Invasion Part 2?

Contributed by Potpot:

Exactly 5 years ago, ‘Baby One More Time’ by Britney Spears entered the mainstream U.S. radio airplay. From then on, the bubblegum pop era, waiting for resurection since the early 80s, started to balloon and swallow the whole music industry, with such names as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Nsync, and Christina Aguilera… and the rest was history.

Britney Spears On Top All Over Again All Over The World

Contributed by Potpot:

Just when you thought she was “over, finished, down for the count”, Britney Spears is bigger than ever.

After 5 years, 1/4 of Madonna’s career, Spears continues to deliver hit after hit, no. 1 album after a no. 1 album. Her latest offering, “In The Zone”, crushed all competition this week, trouncing The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Kylie Minogue, and is set to debut straight to No. 1, with more than 600, 000 copies sold in the U.S. alone. Worldwide, the newly crowned 21st century pop queen is expected to shell in more than 2 million copies in its first week.

Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera And Album Sales

Contributed by Potpot:

It gets pretty annoying right now how some people ridicule Britney Spears for selling millions of copies of her album every time it comes out. Let me tell each one of you why album sales are more important than the, ahem, the Grammys and the opinion of the critics.

First of all, album sales are the ultimate vindication of an artist’s overall individuality and success. It is the viewing people, the common people, that buy an album. In other words, it is the viewing public that judges the artist by buying his or her album, not just a handful of hypocrites that hide under the skirt of being called that “music critic” or “music genius” who pretends to know everything and judges the artist based on his own personal taste.

Why ‘Me Against The Music’ Stalled In U.S. Charts

Britney Spears 'Me Against The Music' ft. Madonna single cover

Contributed by Potpot:

It only takes a watchful music fan to know why Britney Spears’ ‘Me Against The Music’ failed to break the top 30 in the Billboard charts.

Foremost, ‘Me Against The Music’ definitely is not a flop. It peaked at a decent No. 35 in Billboard 100. In fact, it was the most successful Spears single since Lucky came out in September 2000. However, it still failed to deliver a long-awaited 4th top 10 hit for Spears. Here’s the reason why…

‘Me Against The Music’ was on heavy rotation in only one format. A song in heavy rotation means it is played more than 10 times a day in a radio station. ‘Me Against The Music’ was played only in pop-format stations, and barely got airplay in Rhythmic, Urban, Adult Contemporary, and of course Rock format stations. Unlike Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce Knowles, who all decided to take on a more hip-hop/r’n’b musical direction with their songs thereby gaining the advantage in being in heavy rotation in at least 3 different formats (pop, urban and r’n’b), Spears decided to continue with her dance pop tune, as proven in Me Against The Music. To illustrate it further, take a look at this example: Christina Aguilera’s Can’t Hold Us Down had the same amount of airplay ‘Me Against The Music’ had in pop stations.

Britney Spears Still ‘Quite’ Hot

Contributed by Potpot:

In a recent survey that was published in the May issue of Popstation Magazine asking its readers which artists from the bubble-gum pop era (1999-2000) they think were still hot property after rocking the music world 4 years ago. Only 4 names were obvious stand-outs: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, *NSYNC, and the Backstreet Boys. The dubbed pop princess easily garnered more or less 40% of the votes, followed by Christina Aguilera with 28% of the total votes cast. *NSYNC stretched to third with 22%, and the Backstreet Boys having 8% of the votes. The remaining 2% of the votes were shared by LFO, Blink 182 and many others. Nonetheless, when bouted against modern day favorites, Britney crashed to a modest No.4, just below fellow teen Avril Lavigne (No.1), rapper Eminem (No.2), and hot-mama Nelly (No.3).

Newest Britney Spears Single

Contributed by Potpot:

You’re seeing right guys! The pop princess is back with a brand new single. The 7th track to be released from her self-titled 3rd album is ‘That’s Where You Take Me’. Unfortunately, this track would be another of those place-exclusive tracks (just like I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll and Anticipating). ‘That’s Where You Take Me’ would only be released in selected countries in Asia and in Latin and South America. More likely, it would not see any US or European release. This would be the last cut out of ‘Britney’ since she would be releasing her 1st single off her 4th album by late June.

Britney Spears Didn’t Do Bad After All In Razzies

Contributed by Potpot:

The Razzie Awards, an award-giving show that ‘commends’ the worst movies and actors/actresses of the year, has already unleashed their slashing tongues last March 22, 2003; and the result? Madonna ‘Swept’ all the awards ‘Away’, giving her successor the chance to breath once again after being rumored to win all the worst-of awards. Britney Spears was nominated in 8 categories, including Worst Picture for ‘Crossroads’ and Worst Actress in the same teen flick. Nonetheless, she only won the Worst Original Song for ‘Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman’, the OST for Crossroads, her feature film debut, upsetting many critics who wanted her to win all in all the worst-of categories she was nominated in.
