Madonna Says U.S. Isn’t ‘Celebrating Democracy’
April 16, 2003 – Madonna explained during a candid interview with Megan Mullally of NBC-TV’s ‘Will & Grace’, that freedom of expression has been compromised in America. “You know it’s ironic that we’re fighting for democracy in Iraq because we ultimately aren’t celebrating democracy here,” Madonna said in a VH1 special Madonna Speaks premiering Wednesday (April 16) at 10 p.m. ET/PT. “Because anybody who has anything to say against the war or against the president or whatever—is punished, and that’s not democracy–it’s people being intolerant. And you know, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, for or against and that’s what our constitutional rights are supposed to be, that we all have the freedom to express ourselves and voice our dissent if we have that.”

April 12, 2003 – NME reports that Madonna has made a new video for ‘American Life’ following the withdrawal of the original military-themed clip that Madonna decide was “not appropriate” for release due to the invasion of Iraq. The new cut will reportedly use scenes of the original video intercut with newly shot material.

Madonna To Perform At Vegas Release Party
April 10, 2003 – The Las Vegas Sun reports that according to sources at Madonna’s Maverick Records and at the N9NE group (which runs Rain in the Desert), plans are being made for the singer to perform before a live audience at Rain on April 24th for the ‘American Life’ release party. “Nothing is final until she takes the stage, but it looks like it’ll happen,” a Los Angeles source revealed.
