xanthe writes "As a Christina Aguilera fan, when defending my favourite singer I constantly have one line thrown in my face from Britney Spears fans. 'You're Jealous.' I am accused of being jealous that Britney has sold more albums than Christina, or that Britney's Madonna kiss received more attention, among other things.
I deny this over and over again, because in all honesty, I am not jealous. Rarely do Britney Spears fans take me seriously. I commend Britney for being a media sensation and selling so many records. Good for her.
I am immensely proud of Christina Aguilera, as I'm sure Britney's fans are proud of Britney Spears. But the difference is - I'm not proud of Christina because of how many records she sells. It's not even her Grammy awards that I'm proud of.
I'm proud of Christina for producing a ground breaking album full of creative, meaningful songs. I'm proud of her for using her enormous voice beautifully on songs full of artistic integrity and emotion. I'm proud of her for expressing herself. I'm proud of her for pushing boundaries, for being daring and fearless. I'm proud of her for being proud of herself. I'm proud of her for going against the grain, and for holding her head high and speaking her mind. I'm proud of her for pulling a re-invention so successful Madonna would be proud. I'm proud of Christina for singing live. I'm proud of Christina for putting on an amazing live show. I'm proud of Christina for never disrespecting her fans. But above everything, I am proud of 'Stripped'.
For me, it's the music that matters. Christina is an artist, who is so talented and heart-felt. I don't care how many albums she sells.
To me, Britney will never be in the same category as Christina. In my honest opinion, Britney is not an artist, nor a musician. Her lack of vocal talent is embarrassing, and her songs are shockingly soulless and shallow. These are words I would never use to describe Christina. I will always acknowledge Britney's amazing album sales. That's really great for her.
But Christina could sell 100 copies of Stripped, and it would not take away the amazing bulk of talent and creativity crammed into that album.
In my opinion, I think Britney fans are the ones to be jealous.
But hey, it's only an opinion, kids."
