Mariah Carey: Madonna's Kryptonite
divinah writes "Back in 1989, it used to be just Madonna's playground. Number ones here, number ones there. Her controversies used to translate into hits and big bucks back then. Enter 1990 and music history, as we knew it, suddenly changed when a 19 year-old girl with big hair and a huge voice entered the music scene: Mariah Carey. Madonna got upset, anxious and threatened as this talented newcomer stole the heart of the US (that is, THE world), winning awards left and right, receiving positive media accolades, and -- most of all -- churning out hit after hit, number ones after number ones.
Fast forward to 2006. Both lady (Mariah) and crone (Madonna) have had their shares of ups and downs. By this time, Mariah had surpassed the older one in all things: sales, number ones and popularity. Media always report negative reaction on the part of The Corpse. The latest story is that she laughed hysterically when she heard that Mariah's ticket sales for he upcoming tour wasn't doing too well. By doing so, The Corpse had proven that Mariah is her kryptonite, her constant threat. What's sad here is that even when Mariah is at a low point, The Corpse still consider her a threat.
There is no way The Corpse will ever surpass or even come close to what Mariah has accomplished. For crying out loud, she can't even achieve the simplest feat of just being on radio! In a business now populated by the Beyonces, the Rihannas, the Shakiras, the Parises -- and yes, the Mariahs -- The Corpse will have to face not one but many kryptonites. Insecurity and jealousy ain't gonna get her nowhere."
