Downfall Of The Pop Princesses

Anonymous writes "Though we never thought it would happen, the current reigning pop princesses Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, and Jessica Simpson will soon see rock bottom as their careers are at an all-time low. This is proven by bad publicity, and large sales decreases. We will first discuss Britney Spears - a woman who had once been crowned Madonna's successor, and nearly 80 million records sold around the world. After meeting, marrying, and divorcing K-Fed, Britney had committed career suicide. A comeback album is in the works for late 2007, but is the public willing to spend $15 on a cd, knowing of what she has done? Will parents turn their children away from her music? Only time will tell as she spends the month in rehabilitation trying to better herself for her family's sake.
Christina Aguilera dodged a career nosedive back in 2003, when she wowed the media with a new look for 'Stripped'. The album became a strong seller nearly matching the sales of her 1999 debut album. During the gap between Stripped and Back to Basics, Aguilera got married, and changed her look. This time she dubbed herself a modern-day 1930's starlet with an album to match her recycled image. After the success of the first single, 'Ain't No Other Man', Back to Basics seemed like a possible hit with generally positive feedback from critics. But after a lengthy 28 weeks, the two-disc set has shipped a mere 4million copies worldwide - less than half of what 'Stripped' has sold, and a third of the sales of her debut. Granted, there are some singles to be released - but will they be so popular and chart-topping to incredibly boost album sales? We will soon see.
After the 13million-selling hit album 'Misundaztood', Pink's career nearly hit rock bottom with the album 'Try This' - which managed to sell a quarter of what the previous album sold. The comeback album 'I'm Not Dead' was anything but, with sales slightly higher than the previous and lack of airplay in North America. Pink's music is showing signs of improvement as 'U and Ur Hand' (a single released in late summer 2006) has re-entered the Billboard charts nearly 6 months later peaking at number 63. But that still is nothing compared to the number 4 peak of 'Get the Party Started' and the number 8 peak of 'Just Like a Pill'.
Jessica Simpson's studio albums never really were big-sellers, until she signed on to reality show 'Newlyweds' which became an MTV favorite. Her album 'In This Skin' quickly ascended up the charts hitting #2 and sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. But after her divorce with Nick Lachey, her latest musical efforts have been ignored. The 4th studio album, 'A Public Affair', has raked in under a million copies worldwide becoming Jessica's weakest selling album. In addition, Ms. Simpson's film 'Employee of the Month' belly-flopped last year managing to sell half as many tickets as her previous hit 'Dukes of Hazzard'.
The careers of these young pop stars are slowly making their way down the drain with bad publicty and poor sales. Look at it this way...The sales of Pink, Jessica Simpson, and Christina Aguilera's latest albums combined is a weak 9 million copies - roughly the amount of copies Madonna's 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' studio album sold. Therefore, there will not be a successor to the queen of pop anytime soon. Thanks for reading."
