Ashlee Simpson’s A Passable Top 40 Presence, But Not An Artist

Melissa Ruggieri of the Richmond Times Dispatch reviewed ’s new album ‘I Am Me’, giving it a C+ grade. Ruggieri writes, “That Simpson is credited with writing or co-writing these 11 songs is entirely believable. She struggles to hit notes in the poor-pitiful-me ‘Catch Me When I Fall’, a wan ballad written post-’SNL’ embarrassment that genuinely embodies the mentality of an insecure 21-year-old.” She added, “Simpson is a passable presence in the Top 40 world she inhabits, but one thing she isn’t is an artist.”
