Phyllis Croom of The Washington Post was on hand for Aaron Carter’s concert on Saturday (October 18) at Nissan Pavilion, which surprisingly had Monica as the opening act. She writes, “Whether undulating through the sweetly innocent rhythms of ‘Before You Walk Out of My Life’ or hip-hopping through funky dispatches of her recent chart-topping singles ‘Knock Knock’ and ‘So Gone,; Monica amply showcased a capacity to transform studio precision into a spontaneous soulful workout.” As for the headlining Carter, she says, “To judge from the thinning crowd midway through his set, headliner Carter couldn’t sustain the energy or enthusiasm left in Monica’s wake.”

Monica opening for Aaron Carter… Shouldn’t that be reversed?
That’s what I’m thinking. Like its a big surprise that Monica “stole the show” from Aaron. I like her a lot.
It’s pretty insulting that a big star like Monica, who has had No. 1 albums and multiple No. 1 singles, would open for Aaron Carter. I’m glad the crowd loved her.
Yeah…..shouldn’t it be the other way around? Aaron opening for Monica is more logical.
That wasn’t ‘Aaron’s show’. And Monica wasn’t his opening act…It wasn’t part of his major tour, therefore she wasn’t his opening act. THAT’S logical.
It’s not ‘insulting’. Monica obviously agreed to it, not to mention her and Aaron were both on hte all that 99 tour and have been great friends since. And Aaron HAS had multiple number one singles…Almost all his singles go #1 across seas, and his debut CD and Aaron’s Party went #1 over there, and AP made it to #4 here, making him one of the youngest solo stars to have an album go high. Both are big stars, in their own right.
First of all, why are are people taking what this critic says seriously? Critics pick favorites and write from there. Who knows what the crowd was really like. Second, don’t be so fast to write Aaron off. He’s sold millions of albums. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if the two have sold similar amounts of albums. Aaron is also younger than Monica and hasn’t had as much promotion. He’s had to work even harder to get respect.
