Glenn Gamboa of New York Newsday reviewed Alanis Morissette’s ‘So-Called Chaos’ and Avril Lavigne’s ‘Under My Skin’, giving Avril a ‘C-’ and Alanis a ‘D’. He said of Avril: “Try as she might, Lavigne never musters any edge on ‘Under My Skin’, leaving her with bland sentiments and average arrangements that she tries to spice up by elongating words.” And Alanis? “Unfortunately, her songwriting has gone downhill since her blockbuster ‘Jagged Little Pill’ days, when she had the help of Glen Ballard.”
