The Canadian Press reports that Avril Lavigne has settled a lawsuit filed by the Rubinoos claiming her song ‘Girlfriend’ sounded too much like their 1979 single, ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’. Rubinoos lawyer Nicholas Carlin said a confidential settlement has been reached but could not comment further. The singer’s manager Terry McBride had denied the Rubinoos claims, as had Avril, but said a settlement was a possiblity simply to avoid a costly legal battle.
