Tricia Woolfenden of The Grand Rapids Press reviewed Avril Lavigne’s new album ‘Under My Skin’, giving it 2 1/2 stars out of 4. Woolfenden writes, “Insipid verses aside, Lavigne does serve an important role in mainstream music. As the anti-Britney, Lavigne uses an actual band that plays actual instruments while she actually sings. While both singers have gone to great lengths to prove how ‘grown up’ they are, Lavigne doesn’t use a hyper-sexualized persona to do so. Instead, she urges young women to be independent, strong-willed and not just sexual objects.”
