Ben Moody Talks About Avril Lavigne, Evanescence Split

Former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody did an interview with Mix 96.1 in San Antonio, talking about why he left the group while the band was in Germany. Moody said he didn’t leave the group in a huff, and things were discussed between he, Amy Lee, and the band’s management well in advance. Moody implied that Amy Lee played the “damsel in distress” for press purposes, and they agreed one of the two had to go, and Amy didn’t want to go solo, so he volunteered. Moody admitted they haven’t had a relationship, personal or business wise, for a long time, and it wasn’t working as a band anymore — so he didn’t want to put the band and the crew through that continued tension. He then talked about how he and got together, saying that she’s is a very nice person to work with and that she’s got a shy personality, which is why she’s such a difficult person to interview. Moody then talked about his other projects, including a possible solo album. The interview at has since been removed.

I’m glad to see he’s gotten out of that band and gone on to better things. Although I don’t really like Avril, working with her is a great way for him to get some cred as a songwriter. Of all the Evanescence songs, I like the lyrics he wrote (My Immortal) over the ones Amy wrote (Going Under). He’s not a great guitarist but he knows what it takes to make a song listenable and popular.

Yeah I agree with that part that she does have a shy personality because on MuchMusic sometime in the past she was interviewed and she was looking at the ground and talking. it’s weird because she doesn’t mind rocking out.

I think the shyness everyone picks up on is the fact that she is still very young–very much a kid. I bet in a few years she’ll mature a little more and come out of her shell; and when she does she’s really gonna put out some damn good music.

yeah, I totally agree with you! She just had her first album, which was good. Hopefully, her sophomore album will be even better!
