Britney And Justin Won’t Save Pop, But Christina Could

Whenever Britney Spears releases new stuff, it’s like the pop fix of the moment and the thing to listen to for a minute or so. When the hype dies down, nobody will care about her anymore until she releases another album (IF ‘In the Zone’ doesn’t bomb like I suspect it will). I believe the album will open big due to all the promotion, but after Christmas, how will she last? Will radio support her? Will people continue to care? I highly doubt it. This album will probably sell a little over 2.5 million copies and disappear with a 3x Platinum certification, while albums like ‘Stripped’ and ‘Justified’ will continue to be on the charts.

It’s kind of sad that her boyfriend is a huge star because he mooched off her popularity. If there was no ‘Cry Me A River,’ there would be no ‘Justin Timberlake, Huge Solo Star,’ because he doesn’t have the musical or vocal talent to make people care. He sells on sex appeal and catchy songs.

Out of all these pop stars, I believe Christina Aguilera is the only one with true promise to last. I really, honestly feel that she is going to make it and shine above everyone else. She has a long way to go, but I really think she can do it. She’s got the voice and if she’d stop distracting people with her image and tacky fashion sense, she could do a lot more than just psuedo-mature pop. Nobody in her field has released an album quite like ‘Stripped,’ and critics alike have agreed with that statement. I also think it’s sweet justice that she is selling more than Justin and most likely Britney as well. She’s nearing that 3.3 million mark in the US and after over 55 weeks, she is still in the top 100 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, never dropping out of the top 100.

To have an album last like that when pop music is practically dead in the water, is fantastic. Justin’s album is already out of the top 100. People are figuring out who’s genuine and who isn’t. Justin can work with the hottest rappers and producers and get all this “street cred” from everyone, but still, he cannot outsell Christina (worldwide, forget it, she’s so far ahead that he’ll never catch up). Britney can show off her belly button, wiggle around and sing about the touch of her hand, but she’ll never get the respect or credibility Christina is poised to have. Pop is dead, but Christina Aguilera can save it and make it credible again.
