Britney Spears zoomed to the top of the charts this week with her latest effort, ‘Britney’ clearing 745,744 copies to become this year’s second best-selling album in its first week, albeit less than her previous album, , Oops! … I Did It Again, which also debuted at number 1 in May of 2000 on first week sales of 1.3 million. Pink Floyd’s Echoes was around 1/2 million sales behind to get the #2 spot. As for getting two weeks atop the charts, Britney will have to fend off Shakira who’s album debuted yesterday and appears poised for the top spot, according to early numbers from Wherehouse Music.
