Brian McCollum of The Detroit Free Press reviewed Britney Spears’ concert at the Palace on Wednesday night (April 14). McCollum writes, “There was certainly no faulting the pizzazz in the production, a meticulously sculpted array of lights and athletic choreography. But Spears — who herself apologized midway through for a voice that ‘a little messed up right now’ — fell short on the musical end of things. Cabaret renditions of ‘Oops! I Did It Again’ and ‘Baby One More Time’ were intended to show stylistic daring, but ultimately managed only to drain those songs’ main redeeming features: their sparkling, up-tempo pop appeal.”
