‘Hardball with Chris Matthews’ producer Howard Mortman shared his thoughts on Britney Spears’ comments in People magazine about her reaction to September 11, 2001, and how it contrasted with her celebrity colleagues who offered surly remarks devoid of political motivation, including those by Madonna, Cher, and Backstreet Boys star Kevin Richardson. Britney says, “One of the most significant things that’s happened in the last 30 years was the tragedy of Sept. 11. I was on my way overseas on that sad day and I couldn’t get back to the U.S.A. right away, and I was very worried about my brother who was in New York. During this time when the whole world was grieving, I just wanted to go home and be with my family and appreciate life even more.” Mortman says in response, “For Britney’s sake, and our own sanity, let’s linger a bit over her memory of 9/11.
