Joshua Klein of the Chicago Tribune reviewed Britney Spears’ concert at the Allstate Arena Tuesday night (April 13). Klein writes, “The heavily choreographed acts were comically exaggerated, as if conceived by someone whose glitzy, gaudy idea of the real world begins and ends in Las Vegas. But while Spears’ painstakingly prurient production tried to be transgressive, it felt regressive, an unimaginative sexcapade apparently inspired by the pneumatic gyrations of lap dancers and porn stars. The bulk of Britney’s show was basically a PG-13 pajama party, with the star and her Cirque du Soleil-ready dancers cavorting about the busy stage to songs such as ‘Toxic’ and ‘… Baby One More Time’, the latter transformed with ‘Oops! I Did It Again’ into virtually anonymous jazz ditties.”
