‘Canadian Idol’ Enters Its Sixth Season – Will It Be The Last?

The Toronto Star is suggesting that CTV’s ‘Canadian Idol’ franchise could be in trouble as the show enters its sixth season on Tuesday after a ratings slide last year and after ‘American Idol’ sustained a ratings slip as well. Veteran music industry observer Larry LeBlanc offered a familiar criticism, whether a country can sustain a talent pool. “I watched last season and cringed,” LeBlanc said, indicating he wasn’t impressed with some of the finalists. “Is there not a rising young entertainer in Canada that has truly not tried out for this show by this point?” he asked. “They almost would be better off taking the show off the air for two or three years and then coming back with a new crop of artists.”

Despite the criticism, LeBlanc said he’ll still be watching. “To be honest, I enjoy it. You see some of the crazy people at the beginning, tune out in the middle weeks, and come back at the very end.” Read more.
