Vanessa Carlton took part in a chat on MSN Tuesday and was asked if she thinks that a person has to have a certain look nowadays to be able to go far in their music. “Yeah and it’s unfortunate,” she said. “You see new girls come out and I think that Avril, who I know is a sweet girl, her image is instrumental to her success right now. If you take it away, I think you should be able to be stripped down and come out in a gray sweatshirt and jeans and still have as big of an impact. So I think you should be able to use it to your advantage but can do without. I think it should be all about the music. I’m still one of the few people who write their own music.”
