200-300k Opening Week Sales Expected For Britney Spears’ ‘Blackout’

Britney Spears 'Blackout' single cover

Michelle Nichols of Reuters previewed ’ new album ‘Blackout’ ahead of its release next Tuesday (October 30), getting an early read from reviewers on the project. Nichols writes that “some critics who have heard her latest opus say the album’s likely success has little to with her abilities and more to do with the producers” and hears the singer could debut at No. 1 with sales of between 200,000 and 300,000. “Most artists are selling less than they did before just because the album market is down,” said Geoff Mayfield, director of charts at Billboard. “She’s not immune to that and she’s already seen an erosion of her sales from what she did when she was a teen pop star. Even without the adverse publicity that she’s had to weather I would have expected her to have a smaller number.” Spears’ previous effort, 2003′s ‘In The Zone’, sold 600,000 in its first week out. Robyn

posted the following bulletin to fans on her Myspace on Monday (August 13):

Hey Everyone,

Well…we made it

With every heartbeat is the official Uk number 1- I’m so happy

It entered the chart at number 5 last week on downloads alone and I beat both Timbaland and Kanye West to the top so thanks a million friends

I’ve also been added to v festival!

And my album was re-released today with some extra tracks on there just for you!

Thank you all of you!

ROBYN X

Robin also wrote on her blog at Myspace on Monday:

A number 1 on the UK single chart feels great! “With every heartbeat” seems to be one of those records that just found it’s way into peoples hearts and I’m happy and amazed by the response from radio and fans just embracing the song. For a song without a chorus and with a big chunk of dramatic strings on it, it’s done quite well. Kleerup and I are exited about this being the one that gets to the top. I’m really enjoying this moment. Konichiwa Bitches!

Friedman: No Mole, No Sales For Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias 'Insomniac'

Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com reported on the struggles has had with the release of his new album ‘Insomniac’, which has sold fewer than 100,000 copies since its June 12th release. Friedman writes, “What’s the difference between ‘Escape’ and ‘Insomniac’? Back then, Iglesias had a prominent mole on his face; now he doesn’t. The mole may have been a correlation to the ‘bullet’ you get when a single or album is climbing the charts. No mole, no bullet, no sales.” Read more.
