Friedman: No Mole, No Sales For Enrique Iglesias

Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com reported on the struggles has had with the release of his new album ‘Insomniac’, which has sold fewer than 100,000 copies since its June 12th release. Friedman writes, “What’s the difference between ‘Escape’ and ‘Insomniac’? Back then, Iglesias had a prominent mole on his face; now he doesn’t. The mole may have been a correlation to the ‘bullet’ you get when a single or album is climbing the charts. No mole, no bullet, no sales.” Read more.

T.I. Tops Miley Cyrus And Kelly Clarkson On U.S. Album Charts

Billboard reports T.I.’s latest album ‘T.I. vs. T.I.P.’ led the album charts, selling 468,000 copies in its first week. ’ double album ‘Hannah Montana 2/Meet ’ slipped to No. 2 with 188,000 units, a sales decrease of 42 percent. ’s ‘My December’ fell from No. 2 to No. 3 with 113,000, 61 percent drop.

Miley Cyrus Edges Kelly Clarkson To Top U.S. Album Charts

Billboard reports that ’ new album ‘Hannah Montana 2 / Meet ’ sold 326,000 units during the week ended July 1st, according to Nielsen SoundScan, enough to edge out ‘American Idol’ season one champ Clarkson’s latest effort ‘My December’, which opened at No. 2 with 291,000. Read more.

Avril Lavigne’s ‘The Best Damn Thing’ On Pace For 250k Opening

HitsDailyDouble.com reports that based on one-day sales figures, ’s third album ‘The Best Damn Thing’ is on pace to sell 250,000 copies in its opening week, enough to hold off Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Year Zero’, on pace to top 200k. Lavigne’s previous effort ‘Under My Skin’ sold 380,000 units its opening week three years ago, albeit during a more healthy overall music market.

Take That Top UK Singles Chart For Third Week

‘The Sweet Escape’ Underperforms

This week’s Billboard 200 featured the anticipated new CD from ‘The Sweet Escape’ entering the charts at #3, behind Eminem and Ciara who respectively claimed the silver and gold. Gwen’s last solo effort ‘L.A.M.B.’ entered the chart in 7th place with 310, 000 sold. Although ‘Escape’ charts four spots higher, it sold a modest 243, 000, a little below studio expectations and a moderate 22% decrease from ‘L.A.M.B”s debut week. The album narrowly defeated Hannah Montana’s TV Soundtrack in its seventh week by a few hundred copies for a spot in the coveted top 3. The album belly flopped on the UK charts, coming in at 26th place! With so-so reviews and an average debut, the road ahead doesn’t look so clear for ‘The Sweet Escape’. The pop singer stated in interviews that she plans to reunite with No Doubt to make a record for 2008.

After a moderate 13 weeks, ’s 3rd album ‘Back to Basics’ has been certified platinum by the RIAA. On this week’s Billboard chart, the album descends from 35th to 48th place despite a sales increase to 25,000 sold. The 2nd single ‘Hurt’ is at #23 on the Hot 100 after 7 weeks, gaining a little more airplay than last week. The single should enter the top ten soon as RCA plans to release it on iTunes in late November and increase radio airplay heavily.

Westlife Score 14th UK Number One

topped the UK singles chart for the 14th time in their career with ‘The Rose’, edging fellow Irishmen U2, whose collaboration with Green Day – ‘The Saints Are Coming’ – rose from six to two. All Saints climbed from 11 to three with their comeback single ‘Rock Steady’, while Madonna’s ‘Jump’ entered at number nine.
