Jacko Sales Predictions Dwindle

The Sunday Times reports that while initial hopes by Sony expected ’s new album Invincible to clear 600,000 copies, following general record sales slump, cruel previews and the decline in Jackson’s popularity, the album may not even sell half that figure according to analysts.

Hits Mag Says ‘Invincible’ Projections At 400k

Early indications to Hits Magazine suggest ’s new album ‘Invincible’ looks set to perhaps sell up to 400,000 copies in its first week out. While the video is getting some airplay, radio stations haven’t given much interest to ‘You Rock My World’. Jackson’s new album will compete with Chapter 1 from the Backstreet Boys, Enrique Iglesias’ new album, ‘Escape’, and a Christmas album from Destiny’s Child entitled, ’8 Days of Christmas’.

Whitney #1 In Singles Charts

’s 1991 version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” has hit #1 on the pop charts selling over $1 million copies and has raised more than $1 million for the New York Firefighters’ 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund and the New York Fraternal Order of Police.

Mariah Will Have A #1 Album

and the others who performed on the America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon last Friday will be featured in a CD that will be out in a matter of weeks, according to the New York Daily News’ Mitchell Fink. While a price for the album hasn’t been set, both the artists and the record companies manufacturing and distribution have waived any of their fees and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the September 11th Telethon Fund. Insiders predict the album will clear 10-15 million copies.

Final Numbers Show Mariah’s Glitter Fade

’s first week album sales of Glitter were a major disappointment even factoring in the terrorist attacks that occurred on the 9-11 release date. Glitter managed only 116,000 sales in its initial week, with Jay-Z clearing 427,000 in the same period with his new album, The Blueprint.

Mariah Carey’s Glitter Flops, *NSYNC Resumes Downtrend

Early sales results in from HitsDailyDouble.com indicate that ’s debut week for Glitter will be a mega-disappointment as she currently is showing 77,529 album sales with 65% of the figures in. The figure puts her at #7 in the countdown with Jay-Z trouncing everyone in a weak, tragedy filled week with 299,853 units sold. NSYNC looks much weaker with only 42,832 sales to this point, putting them at #19.

NSYNC Tracking Higher In Album Sales

It appears ’s performance and 4 awards at the Video Music Awards for Pop are helping album sales this week as for the first time since the debut week, the band is set to rise up the charts for the week. With a lackluster week for album sales in general, looks set to have around 85,000 in album sales and is currently in the #12 position, up from #15 last week, according to HitsDailyDouble.com. System of A Down appears poised to take the #1 spot.

NSYNC Plunges Further, Drops To #15 In Charts

R&B Dominated album sales this week as 5 of the top 6 albums were from R&B acts, with Slipknot’s Iowa the only non-R&B act. Aaliyah’s tragic death helped catapult her album sales 800% for the week to land at #1, barely edging Mary J. Blige’s new album, No More Drama.

NSYNC saw further sales erosion as Celebrity sales dropped another 26% for the week with the group clearing 94,208 albums.

Pop Scarce In This Week’s Top 10, *NSYNC Continues Lower

SoundScan figures for the week show ’s Celebrity continue lower as rock and R&B acts litter the top 10, including Maxwell in the #1 position with Now. sold 138,555 albums for the week putting them in the #5 position, down from #3 last week. Jennifer Lopez rounded out the top 10 selling 91,657 records for the week.
