Miley Cyrus Tops U.S. Album Charts

Miley Cyrus 'Hannah Montana' soundtrack 2006

topped the U.S. album charts with the soundtrack to her hit Disney Channel series ‘Hannah Montana’, Billboard reported Wednesday. The Walt Disney Records set sold more than 280,000 copies in the week ended October 29th, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the biggest start for a soundtrack since November 2005, when rapper 50 Cent’s ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin” bowed with 317,000 units.

Janet Jackson’s Boyfriend Quits Job Over Her

Sources tell Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com Jermaine Dupri is out as head of urban music at Virgin after disappointing sales of his girlfriend ’s comeback album ’20 Y.O.’ Three weeks into its release, the album is a dud with less than 500,000 copies sold. Friedman suggests Dupri’s decision to present the 40-year-old as a hip hop diva is largely to blame. Read more.

The video premiere for ’s ‘Hurt’ is October 14th in most European countries and October 17th for North Americans. Aguilera claims the video is circus-themed and co-directed by Floria Sigusmundi (most notably known for her work with Sigur Ros, Marilyn Manson, and Aguilera). On the charts, ‘Hurt’ is already at number 15 in Sweden, and 35th on the Billboard Pop 100 with approximately 2700 spins in the US alone.

300k For Janet Jackson’s ’20 Y.O.’

Our previous poll asking how many copies of ’s new album ’20 Y.O.’ would be sold in America in the first week saw 28.1% respond 500,000+, followed by 19.6% who thought it would be under 100,000. Based on HitsDailyDouble’s final figures, Janet sold 300,793, which 17% guessed the range of 300-399k. Billboard sales figures will be released later today.

Scissor Sisters New Album A Smash In The UK

The latest CD ‘Ta-Dah’, which was released in the UK on Monday, is already on course to become one of the biggest sellers of the year. The Sun reports the group sold an astonishing 83,000 copies on its first day, making it the highest sales figure since Arctic Monkeys put out their album back in January. Read more.

Justin Timberlake Dominates Album Charts In Opening Week

Popdirt.com’s previous poll asking how many copies of ’s new album ‘FutureSex / LoveSounds’ will be sold in America in the first week saw 17.5% say over 1 million, while 14.9% guessed under 200,000. 13.7% said 300-399k, while 10.6% guessed 700-799k, which based on HitsDailyDouble’s just announced figures, would be correct. The former *NSYNC star sold 710,539 units in his opening week, easily besting John Mayer’s ‘Continuum’ who came in second in the chart battle with an impressive 288,466 copies.

’s ‘SexyBack’ held the No. 1 title on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for a second week Thursday. Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie’s ‘London Bridge’ was steady at No. 2, Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ climbed one to No. 3, and the Pussycat Dolls’ ‘Buttons’ featuring Snoop Dogg rose one to No. 4.
