Demi Lovato Reacts To Philip Seymour Hoffman Death

Demi Lovato no makeup

Demi Lovato checked in with her Twitter followers (@ddlovato) earlier today, reacting to news that actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment this morning of an apparent drug overdose, leaving behind a son and two daughters, with his partner, costume designer Mimi O’Donnell. Hoffman was 46. Demi, who has battled substance abuse herself, writes:

I wish more people would lose the stigma and treat addiction as the deadly and serious DISEASE that it is. Drugs are not something to glamorize in pop music or film to portray as harmless recreational fun. It’s not cute, “cool” or admire able. It’s very rare when people can actually predict their addiction and even then, you never know when too much is going to take their life or take a bad batch of whatever it is their using. It’s time people start really taking action on changing what we’re actually singing/rapping about these days because you never know if you could be glamorizing a certain drug to a first time user or alcoholic who could possibly end up dead because they end up suffering from the same deadly disease so many have already died from. This stuff is not something to mess with. Why risk it? Addiction IS a disease. Please spread the word so we can take the taboo out of discussing this illness and raising awareness to people of all ages. RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman.. An INCREDIBLE artist who lost his life to this horrible disease.. May you rest peacefully and in complete serenity now that your pain is gone. God Bless..

Demi also fired back at a Twitter critic of her words, writing:

If ONLY it were that simple. You clearly have never lost anyone to drugs or alcohol and OBVIOUSLY are not educated enough to fully understand the seriousness of this MENTAL ILLNESS. RT @M_Franchello89: @ddlovato then you’re a fu**ing idiot and you deserve what ever happens to you.

Miley Cyrus Offers Advice For Justin Bieber

Miley Cyrus is enjoying her eye raising new pixie hairstyle

Miley Cyrus appeared on ‘The Tonight Show’ on Thursday (January 30) where the 21-year-old weighed in on fellow pop star Justin Bieber and his recent legal troubles that include a DUI in Miami, egging a neighbors home in Los Angeles, and an assault in Toronto.

“Uh … I would just say, you know, you got a lot of money. Pay people to make sure you don’t get in trouble,” Miley told departing host Jay Leno about her advice for the Bieb. “And party at your house. Buy a house, and add a club to it!”

For Miley’s own part, despite some headline grabbing incidents, she has avoided any of her own legal troubles. “I don’t see a Miley mugshot yet, and I’m like, look, I get the most flack of anybody,” Cyrus complained.

Katy Perry, Mandy Moore React To Maryland Mall Shooting

Katy Perry 2013

Katy Perry checked in with her Twitter followers (@katyperry) on Saturday following news of a shooting at a Columbia, Maryland shopping mall that left two Zumiez store employees and the gunman dead. Perry writes:

Is anyone else really sad about the constant stream of shootings and how normal it’s becoming to see these headlines on a weekly basis?

Scared to go to school? Scared to go to the mall? Scared to go to the movies? Me too. When will there be ACTUAL change? How many more?!

You and I both know this is getting embarrassing…My heart goes out to ALL the victims & their families this week. I pray for change.

Mandy Moore also shared similar thoughts to her Twitter followers (@TheMandyMoore):

Thinking of the victims and all those affected by today’s shooting in MD. Schools, movies, the mall. Is anywhere safe? We need real change.

MADD Urges Tough Punishment If Bieber Convicted Of DUI

Justin Bieber performs live

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking, weighed in on news that Justin Bieber had been arrested for drunk driving early Thursday in Miami Beach, urging the Canadian pop singer to be given a tough sentence if found guilty of his DUI charge. They write:

Today, we heard about another celebrity being arrested for DUI, and this time it’s a celebrity that isn’t even of legal drinking age—19-year-old Justin Bieber. Underage drinking is dangerous, not to mention illegal, and it is unacceptable for anyone to make the choice to drive drunk, especially a celebrity, who may been seen as a role model.

Drunk driving is a choice, and it is 100-percent preventable.

As with any drunk driving arrest, MADD believes everyone has the right to a fair trial, and if found guilty, should be convicted and sentenced to the full extent of the law. We encourage judges to use the full power provided by law in each state to determine appropriate sanctions for anyone convicted of drunk driving.

Our hope that a high-profile DUI arrest such as this one will serve as a reminder to adults 21 and over, both celebrities and fans alike, to plan ahead for a safe way home if their plans include alcohol, as well as reminds those under 21 that drinking alcohol is illegal.
