‘The Very Best of Neil Diamond – The Original Studio Recordings’ Out December 6th

'The Very Best of Neil Diamond - The Original Studio Recordings' album cover

Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings announced a December 6th release date for ‘The Very Best of Neil Diamond – The Original Studio Recordings’. The single disc compilation features 23 best-loved hits and signature tracks from the veteran pop artist.

‘The Very Best of Neil Diamond – The Original Studio Records’ includes his first pop chartings as a writer/performer for Bang Records in the mid-1960s; his hits for Uni/MCA (1968-1972); music from 1980′s The Jazz Singer (his 5x platinum-selling soundtrack album on Capitol Records) and studio essentials from a long-running association with Columbia Records that began in 1973 with the Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack album and runs through a pair of Rick Rubin-produced albums: 12 Songs (2005) and Home Before Dark (which became Neil’s first Number 1 album on the Billboard 200 in 2008).

Also included is “Recollections,” a revelatory set of liner notes penned by Neil especially for this collection, providing anecdotal detail and behind-the-scenes point-of-view insight into each of the songs.

In his reflections on “Hell Yeah,” the track that closes the album, he writes, “‘Hell Yeah’ is an affirmation of a lifetime spent devoted to music and my attempt to find a personally satisfying life for myself beyond the music. I have that life now but it was a much harder job than I thought possible. Still, well worth all the years and all the tears.”

In closing his “Recollections” for The Very Best of Neil Diamond – The Original Studio Recordings, Neil says, “I wish I could personally thank the hundreds of musicians, arrangers, and engineers who, along with the producers, spent long days and nights in studios around the country to make these recordings vibrate and thrill. As a songwriter I can only humbly bow down and thank them all from the depths of my heart for giving wings to my dreams.”

Nerina Pallot Wants Topless Girls In British Tabloids To Vanish

checked in with her Twitter followers (@ladychatterley) this morning, upset with the British tabloid media practice of including topless women in their publications, notably The Sun’s Page Three, wishing that in 2011 it could go away, or perhaps even start something similar with male private parts. The British singer songwriter says:

I got all hopeful seeing Nuts and Zoo trending. Thought they had finally died. But no.

I don’t have a problem with girls getting their tits out on Page 3 etc. But it annoys me that we erect peni aren’t allowed on page 5.

If we’re going to have mass media sanctioned sexism it should work both ways. I say, feminists of the world unite and campaign for cock.

Or let’s just get rid of it altogether, eh? It is 2011 after all and us women unbelievably can cook AND have intelligent thoughts too.

Feist closeup

spoke with the Seattle Times about her decision to take nearly 4 1/2 years to follow up her 2007 album ‘The Reminder’, which featured the 35-year-old’s most successful single, ’1234′.

“You know how difficult it is to stop a boulder from rolling down hill,” Feist explained about the delay before recording ‘Metals’, released last month. “I wanted to come to a complete stop and then see if I had enough fuel to get moving again from a natural perspective, rather than just be going on gravity.”

Katharine McPhee Discusses Her ‘Smash’ Character Karen Cartwright

talked about her character Karen Cartwright in the new NBC musical drama ‘Smash’. “My character Karen is just one of those pieces (of putting together a Broadway musical)”, the ‘American Idol’ alum explained. “One of the important pieces of course because she’s one of the actresses that’s auditioning for the show. What I love about the show is you get so many different perspectives. You get the writers’ perspective, the producer’s perspective, the choreographer, the directors and of course the actors’ perspective. It’s definitely a show about the making of a show.” ‘Smash’ is set to premiere on Monday, February 6, 2012.

The interview at NBC.com has since been removed.
