The Virgin-Whore Schtick Seems To Work Its Charms

Debra Goldman of Adweek is sounding off on and her popularity that just won’t go away. Goldman says, “Nothing seems to incite Britney rage like the Virgin Thing. Her claim of chastity, which was perfectly plausible when she embarked on pop stardom at 16, has become more incendiary as her bra-cup size has increased and her act has become more suitable for a strip club. The sheer brazenness of using a claim of sexual innocence to sell titillation drives Britney’s critics nuts.”

Viewers Blast Laughing Carson During TRL Moment Of Silence

Carson Daly shocked television audiences Tuesday after asking fans on MTV’s Total Request Live to observe a moment of silence for the death of Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas who died over the weekend. Midway through that moment, Carson started laughing and blurted, “What are we doing? It’s only Dave, he had a good life!” Furious viewers blasted the host afterwards on music message boards with MO-Xtina saying, “That is so disrespectful and mean. Carson has got the nerve! He made himself look like such a jack***!” ‘Vocals count’ pointed out, “While everyone was quiet he did start laughing into the mic. It was kinda tacky. Bet he didn’t do the same when Joe C (Kid Rock’s friend) died.”

Tongue-In Cheek New Year’s Resolutions

Evelyn McDonnell of the Miami Herald put together New Year’s resolutions of the stars in what she wished they’d had said. Included were Michael Jackson, *NSYNC, , and , wishing the Material Girl had said, “I resolve to learn to play the guitar for real this year; to lay down my silver spoon, pick up a hammer, and labor alongside the working men of England, understanding their toils and strife; to fire my nanny, governess, housekeeper, cook, etc., and learn how average women rear children, so I can sing their song, be their Woody Guthrie — yes, I want to live like common people.”

Moody Slams Mariah Carey And Christina Aguilera

AP Music Writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody gave her best and worst of the year in music list and included as Worst Career Move for deciding to make the movie ‘Glitter’ and Most Unnecessary Remake being cast for ‘Lady Marmalade’, who Moody said of, “It’s hard to tell what was worse, hearing Aguilera screech her part on the radio, or seeing her do it with full-fright wig in the video.”

Fans Plot Austin Powers Boycott – Cite Britney & Beyonce

A petition has gone up demanding that and Destiny’s Child ‘middle one’ Beyonce Knowles be reconsidered in the latest Austin Power’s flick, ‘Austin Powers In Goldmember’. The petition cites, “Because their fan base is mostly children and teenagers who will not even be allowed to see the movie, and also because the total amount of people who are against Spears and Knowles is much higher than the amount of their fans, we feel that they will be bad for the movie, and drive viewers away from it.” Read more and/or sign the petition here.

Molly Brown Slams Britney – Madonna Comparisons

Las Vegas Weekly writer Molly Brown gave her thoughts on the year in music and saved her most pointed comments for . Brown blasted, “Britney is not, and never will be, in the same freaking arena as ” adding, “ pretty much did what she did until she got control. And when she got control, control she did–the entire world. Britney, on the other hand, is a Disney-ized, wind- ‘em-up, un-popped cherry doll–or so she claims–who collects rubber bands.”

Friedman Speculates On Mariah Carey’s Future

Foxnews.com’s Roger Friedman gave his thoughts on where can turn following news that EMI/Virgin is looking to buy out her $20 million per album contract. Journal Sentinel’s Tarlach Slams Britney Spears

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Gemma Tarlach gave her thoughts on the year in music and started out by slamming . Said Tarlach, “In pop music, 2001 began – and ended – with Britney’s belly button, on Jumbotron display first at the Super Bowl, then in a Pepsi ad and finally on tour around the nation. Apparently, it was the biggest selling point for an artist better known for lip-synching other people’s songs than for any innate musical talent.”
