Britney Spears Is the Most Searched Woman Online Of The Year

Contributed anonymously:

ends 2003 being Lycos’ most searched woman of the year. All year long Britney stayed in the top 50 most searched terms, never dropping lower then #20. This is the 5th year Lycos has been around, and for 5 years Britney was the #1 woman. This also makes her the #1 most searched singer, beating out all of her male competitors also. Other female singers making the list include, at #5, Christina Aguilera making her peak at #7, Avril Lavigne at #10, debuting at #11, and Madonna climbs from #19 to #12, with a little help from Britney. Down the list a little, Beyonce enters at #14, Shakira falls to #15, Aaliyah falls to #16, and Shania Twain debuts at #20. Interesting fact, Britney has been on 224 weeks, and the fact that Lycos is 224 weeks old shows Britney has been on since day number one. Only five other terms own the honor.

Lycos Ranks Picture Searches

Contributed by perfectly-imperfect:

The Lycos 50 has an interesting article on which celebs get the most searches for their pictures. Unsurprisingly, Britney tops the list. What is surprising is the list of celebrities for whom the highest percentage of searches are for pictures. Britney is the last on the list, with only 21% of her searches relating to pictures. Both Justin and Christina (36%) have a larger percentage of picture searches.

This amuses me because many people like to downplay every aspect of Britney’s career- including her popularity. They say the usual, like “she’s only so high on those lists because of horny men using her pictures to masturbate with”, etc. Once again, this disperses such pitiful ‘theories’, as clearly, 79% of her searches are for things NOT relating to pictures (lyrics, music, TV show appearances, etc). Someone has been proved wrong again.
