The new Lycos 50 is in and t.A.T.u. have passed up Britney Spears in search queries becoming the most searched for musical act, jumping up 6 to #8, while Britney Spears drops 2 to #12. Other pop acts in the top 50 include Jennifer Lopez at #18, Michael Jackson at #19, Avril Lavigne at #26, Christina Aguilera at #27, American Idol at #29, and Shakira at #49.

On this week’s edition of the Lycos’ Top 50 most searched terms, the Bee Gee’s become the most searched for in music debuting at #5, while Britney Spears was the most searched female and solo artist staying at #11. Not far behind, Eminem and Christina Aguilera come in at #13 and #14 respectively. Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Lopez searches fall, they land at #18 and #19. t.A.T.u are still rising climbing climb four spots to #28 and Nelly climbs up to #37. Rounding out the countdown, Good Charlotte re-debut at #41 and Shakira falls to #45.

Searches for Alanis Morissette last month on pay-per search engine overture.com had the Canadian singer get 46,419 queries. Searches for her lyrics were about 4x more than of the nude searches. Her most searched for song was ‘Ironic’ with 627 queries. The most common misspelling was Alanis Morissete with 610 searches.
This week’s Lycos 50 has 5 female babes – 4 of them pop stars – in a row in positions 11-15. They are, in order, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Lopez, and Avril Lavigne. Others on the list include t.A.T.u. continuing their rise to #32, Shakira at #43, and Kylie Minogue at #49.

Searches for Avril Lavigne were huge on pay-per search engine Overture.com during the month of December. The singer got 506,107 searches for the month, putting her in the league of Jennifer Lopez, though far back of Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears — and unlike those two, searches for the singer nude are behind lyrical searches. The most common misspelling was Avril Lavinge with 32,607 queries, followed by Avril Lavine with 16,346. The most searched song for the Canadian artist was ‘I’m With You’ with 5,663 queries, followed by her hit ‘Complicated’ with 3,404.
Searches for Paulina Rubio are up big from the last time we checked on pay-per search engine Overture.com, though still lag her Latin peers. Searches for the singer during December were 52,910 — which compares to 25,627 in February. Searches for Paulina’s lyrics were slightly more popular than for her nude photos. The most popular misspelling was Paula Rubio, which received 987 searches for the month, followed by Paulino Rubio with 479. The most searched song lyric for the pop artist was ‘The One You Love’ with 201 queries for the month.
You wouldn’t think sales of O-Town’s sophomore album ‘O2′ would be the disaster it has been if you went by the search interest in the reality boy band. The group received 95,501 searches during the month of November, while Ashley Angel was the most searched for member with 5,116 queries, followed by Jacob Underwood with 1,682. ‘These Are The Days’ was the most searched for song lyric with 3,608 queries.
Searches for Holly Valance on pay-per search engine Overture.com were fairly strong despite her non-existent name recognition in America. The Australian singer got 62,613 searches during the month of November, and like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, there was much more interest in photos, particularly nude photos, than song lyrics. The most popular misspelling was “Holly Vallance” with 2,996 queries, followed by “Holly Valence” with 2,248. The most searched for song was ‘Kiss Kiss’ with 534 queries.
