The Associated Press reports Celine Dion will be presented with the Society of Singers’ 13th annual ELLA Award. Dion will receive the award during a June 2004 ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, Society of Singers President and chief executive officer Jerry F. Sharell said Wednesday. “It’s a great honor to receive this award named after Ella Fitzgerald, one of my favorite singers and performers,” Dion said.

“The award, named after its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald, goes to singers whose contributions to the music world are equaled by their dedication to humanitarian causes and community support.” That’s why she’s received the award. not just because of her albums sales, but because she’s also a patron of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Most people don’t realize she’s dedicated to that and other causes.
