Censorship Involving Britney And Christina Midriffs Prompts Lawsuit

The Associated Press is reporting 8 high school students have filed suit against Salinas High School for removing pictures of and with bare midriffs in their yearbook and censoring quotes such as “School is like a lollipop. It sucks until it’s gone.”

The students are citing state law allowing for freedom of speech in student publications and are seeking $51,000 in order to reprint the yearbook in its uncensored form.

Lawyers for both sides as expected reacted the opposite in how the censored material was construed. Andre, the students’ attorney said, “The censored material was remarkably tame stuff.”

The school district’s lawyer, Lou Lozano, however, disagreed saying, “We clearly disagree with most of the allegations. We can’t publish things that are obscene.”
