News & Observer reports Chris Daughtry of McLeansville was sent home from ‘American Idol’ Wednesday night, ending North Carolina’s hopes for a homegrown winner this year. Daughtry, 26, a hard rock singer, was regularly picked by entertainment writers and odds makers as the winner of the top-rated Fox talent show. But he received the lowest amount of viewer votes out of four finalists for his Tuesday-night renditions of two Elvis Presley songs.
