Could The Maxim Photoshoot Destroy Michelle Branch’s Career?

Contributed anonymously:

As a concerned fan of , I do fear that her recent photoshoot for Maxim magazine could potentially spawn a backlash and wreck her career. I also happen to be a fan of an older pop act who made the same move only for it to backfire.

Remember the Irish pop band B*Witched? The girl group who hit it big in 1998-99 with “C’est La Vie” used to pride themselves on not using sex and skin to sell records early in their career; then in early 2000 their record sales began to lag, and apparently out of desperation to attract an older audience the four girls posed for a risque photoshoot in the British edition of FHM magazine. This move did B*Witched more harm than good, and the group eventually disappeared from the pop music radar.

Just like B*Witched, Michelle Branch has a great number of younger fans and fans who praised her for not sexing up her image to sell records, and after this photoshoot, these fans may possibly turn their backs on her. I just hope Michelle herself is aware of the risks she’s taking with these fans, and that just like B*Witched, she may regret this move in hindsight.

Well, I don’t think a sexy photo shoot or two will hurt her entirely. I think (& I’m not sure) that Michelle records on Madonna’s record label, Maverick. Maybe, she was encouraged to spice up her image by the old hag and company. Who knows? If you are a fan just buy as many CD’s as you can-that seems to work for Brit’s fans. Give it a try. Help Michelle out. LOL

I think she will be alright. She is already bigger than Bewtiched, so it shouldn’t hurt her much.

I’m a fan of her and I couldn’t careless that she did it. B*Witched, they were so bad. Yeah, I think Michelle will be okay.

In my opinion: those photo shoots don’t matter. What matters is the music. If you like her music, support her by buying her album. Don’t download it.

I like her music too, but only time will tell if the photoshoot will hurt her career or not.

I don’t think it would ruin her career, but it would most likely ruin Maxim’s reputation for putting something so unsexy on a cover of one of the sexiest magazines.

  7. Madfan says:

YES, definitely! But on the other hand, what career are you talking about??? Does Michelle Branch even have a career in the first place?

  8. babet says:

Screw you to anyone who disapproves. do you not see it??? Michelle Branch is taking such a big risk because she’s so brave and independent. I thought she was just an uptight wannabe who was just following expectations. now that she did this I have so much more respect for her. the fact that’s she’s doing it on her own and going against everyone’s expectations shows that she’s her own person. she’s finally let loose for once! this shocking career move shows that there’s more to this teenage pop artist with a guitar. its not necessarily the photo, but the unpredictable shock that gives her that extra edge.

It’s ok…Christina did it first…Britney copied and did it second…and Michelle is doing it third. no biggie!

  10. hotstuff says:

yeah, and we all know Christina really had the trade mark look of being sexy for photo shoots…gimme a break.

  11. BritneyTHE2nd says:

Michelle never had anything in the first place. all she does is talk crap about people and thinks she’s so much better than everyone else. she really has very little vocal talent and her songs are very 14-year-old. just because she can’t sell 2 records doesn’t mean she needs to be even more of a wannabe than she already is. she isn’t being true to HERSELF, and that’s when she starts tearing up her image……….and by the way does anyone know where those pictures are?
