C.W. Nevius of the San Francisco Chronicle shared his thoughts on Avril Lavigne, whom he admits to being fond of, over the likes of her pop rivals Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. Nevius writes that young girls “realized, as they went to school in new Nike basketball shoes and hooded sweatshirts, that they looked absolutely nothing like Britney or Christina Aguilera or any of the other bubble-gum divas they saw on TV. It wasn’t just, as their dads said, that those girls looked like bimbos from lingerie ads. Dads never get it. Everyone knows that. It was that when they danced around with a bunch of goofy backup singers while wearing a sparkly top they might as well have been beamed in from a parallel universe. Not only did the sweatshirt girls not know anyone who looked remotely like that, if someone like that showed up at school they wouldn’t have the slightest interest in meeting them.” Read more.
