The New York Daily News reports Avril Lavigne got her ‘Total Request Live’ appearance cut short after giving a middle fingered salute on the program that airs live on the east coast. Damien Fahey asked Lavigne what she thought of the media and the labels that critics have slapped on her, so Lavigne responded by thrusting her middle finger into the camera. In the post Janet Jackson breast flashing environment, ‘TRL’ producers were furious and told Lavigne she wouldn’t be able to perform a scheduled second song on the program. “It’s totally inappropriate to make that gesture on the air,” one MTV source complained, apparently giving Fahey a pass for tossing the flamebait question. “It’s a little disrespectful to the audience.”
