Bonnie McKee Debuts New Material As Ryan Gosling Looks On

checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace on Friday (November 14), after debuting some of her new material at a club in the heart of New York City’s Chinatown. Not having a band available, McKee performed to backing tracks for the first time, with an audience that included a celebrity. She writes:

So as I’m pacing back and fourth lookin at this horrible stage situation trying to figure out what the hell I’m gonna do to keep this show entertaining, who do I see milling about? Ryan fu**ing Gosling. Awesome. This is gonna be great. Like what the hell am I supposed to do with that? He’s gonna be standing like three feet away from me while I’m conducting this musical experiment before his eyes. Maybe I’ll run and jump into his arms at the end of a song? In my freakin pink and blue outer space outfit?

Yeah. Or maybe not.

It was less that R G is so scary or intimidating and more that everyone else thinks he is, and that everyone else now perceives the pressure as being higher. Now everyone’s watching him watch me. Rad. What they don’t know is that actors don’t scare me. It’s the scrutinizing musicians that are terrifying. I’ve been in much scarier situations with Jack White, and that was just waiting at the airport. (check the blog hahahaha)

Lenka Is Loving The Hotel Cafe Tour

checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace from the latest stop on the Hotel Café Tour. The Australian pop singer tells readers:

Hello from Portland!
I love it here, this city is so wonderful…
We’re at the Doug Fir, all us girls sitting backstage, chilling out, eating corn chips. This tour is the best thing, I’m just loving it. To perform up on stage with these other unique ladies is a really special experience. If you get the chance, you gotta come check it out! It’s a really cool show with lots of on-stage shenanigans…!

The only bad thing is I’m not able to put up my stage props, so I’m looking forward to doing my own tour (early next year!) and setting up LenkaLand proper!

Kate Miller-Heidke Adopts Up/Up/Down Formula On ‘Curiouser’

Kate Miller-Heidke

spoke with Time Off magazine about her latest album ‘Curiouser’, which saw the Australian singer’s husband and guitarist Keir Nuttall have an expanded role in the recording process compared to her prior releases. Kate also approached the album differently this time around. “We had no songs when we went in,” the 26-year-old explained. “That’s why I think this album has a much greater sense of cohesion than the last one. It was done to a certain formula as well; two ‘up’ songs, then one slightly more ‘down’ song. Every song either had to have a sense of fun and wit and sparkle about it, or a sense of heartfelt, tug-of-the-heartstrings kind of emotion. They were the two criteria for the songs and nothing in between. Looking back on the recordings I’ve done in the past, it’s the songs that don’t quite fit either of those that sometimes can veer into bland territory or I just get sick of them easier.”

Stefanie Heinzmann ‘The Unforgiven’ Video & EPK

is out with the music video to her new single ‘The Unforgiven’, a cover of the Metallica 1991 release, off the Swiss pop singer’s debut album ‘Masterplan’, out now on Universal Records. Before releasing the track, Heinzmann got the chance to meet Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, featured on the track’s EPK. Lars told the 19-year-old, “When I heard yours I thought it was really nice because it was quite different. People over the years have been doing all kinds of interpretations of Metallica songs and it’s always nice, because they’re always – my favorite ones are the always the ones that are as different. I think it’s much more interesting when the songs are changed instead of people just copying what we do.” Watch the video at Vimeo and check out the electronic press kit below.
