Debbie Harry Laments Mainstream Pop

The New York Daily News spoke with Blondie singer Debbie Harry and asked her about today’s crop of pop pinups such as Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. “Now it’s a showbiz thing,” she says. “[In the past] it was in the nature of rock ‘n’ roll to be an outsider – it was counterculture. Now, it’s about being a mainstream pop singer.” Harry also commented on Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl breast flash.
