Steppin’ Out magazine caught up with Deborah Gibson and asked the singer for her thoughts on ‘American Idol’. Gibson felt the show seems “like it’s kind of hit its peak”, and isn’t phased by the its blockbuster ratings. “They might be [getting big ratings],” she conceded. “But if there was ever respect for it being something new and different … (Pauses) Look, Kelly Clarkson has a career, but Ruben Studdard certainly doesn’t. Personally, I think the show was done last season. I think they’re reaching a little now. I think they’re having to go to that weird place where two out of every three contestants is about the bad performances.”
