Denis Leary Has An Idea For Boyband Space Flight

Denis Leary stopped by the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday to talk about various current events, including *NSYNC star and his bid to go into space on a Russian rocket. Denis joked about how they were having trouble raising money, saying we should pay not only for Bass, but the whole group, and the Backstreet Boys as well, if we could make them stay in space and not come back. Read on for a transcript.

Jay: I understand that. I understand that. Now, you know Lance Bass
is going into space.

Denis Leary: Yes. My favorite news story of the last couple weeks.

Jay: Oh, I love this.

Denis Leary: Okay, you guys know about this, Lance Bass from *NSYNC.

[ Cheers ]

[ Audience member boos ] Okay, and so I guess — thank you for the boos.

[ Laughter ]

[ Applause ] I guess he had arranged to do this space program thing,
but he had to pay too. He had to pay a million bucks or somethin’ like
that.

Jay: No, it’s $20 million.

Denis Leary: Is it $20 million? Okay.

Jay: The Russians, they’re so broke, they’re taking passengers.

Denis Leary: Right, okay, and he missed his first payment, was that
what it was? This past week, right? So they’re gonna hold him up, from
goin’ up. And I say I’ll pay him to go and take the rest of the band with
ya.

Jay: Really, yeah.

[ Laughter ]

[ Cheers and applause ]

Denis Leary: You know what? This has opened up a whole new area of space
travel I never thought about. We could fly people we don’t like up into
space and just leave ‘em there.

[ Laughter ]

Jay: Really?

Denis Leary: Yeah. *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, all the groups that don’t
play their own instruments or write their own songs — bye-bye. [ Cheers
and applause ] I got a long list.
