During an online chat with Ken Barnes of USA Today, a reader in Buffalo, New York provided the following scenario: “I’m Britney Spears. On paper I’m worth $100 million+. So I decide to take a break. Like 3 years. During that time I spend most of the first year taking singing and acting lessons from the best in the business as well as some songwriting classes. The second year (hopefully once the paparazzi has forgotten about me) I do some travelling around the world. Then in the third year I get to work on a new album and hook up with good directors like Spike Jones and Sophia Coppola so I can finally have a good video. My comeback single would be something unexpected, like a remake of Tori Amos’s ‘Crucify’. After all I have nothing to lose, I’m worth over $100 million. Do you think this would’ve worked, or is the current method (me chasing my tail) the better alternative?” Barnes responded, “It’s not so much a question of whether it would have worked as a situation that’s completely inconceivable for Britney to have come up with or considered if somebody offered the idea to her. Don’t think there’s a lot of depth there. Madonna would have been capable of such a move, but Britney, despite all the comparisons, ain’t Madonna.” Read more.
