Did MTV Know Britney Would Be An On-Stage Mess?

Sources close to the MTV Video Music Awards tell Entertainment Weekly in their ‘Oh, The Horror!’ cover story that the network may have known it had a potential fiasco on its hands with Britney Spears opening performance of her new single ‘Gimme More’. “I would think [MTV] knew it was going to be a mess,” says one. “They knew she’d been out partying. It seems like it was really meant for attention, like they wanted the publicity.” A music-industry exec who was seated in the audience told the mag, “Everyone was stunned.
