Disclaimer: The following questions were all taken from a Madonna fan. Very slight alterations were made in order to make everything more coherent. Here it goes:
WHY IS IT THAT US RADIO ONLY PLAYS HIP HOP AND FAKE PUNK, OR FAKE ALTERNATIVE MUSIC?
If you check the list of radio formats in any country, USA is the only country that has supported various other genres including hiphop, r&b, pop, dance, gospel, etc.
Like any commercial outlet, american radio plays what’s currently in: hiphop, r&b, pop, and rock for that matter. USA is the only market in the world that actually fosters other genres other than pop.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MUSIC? WHEN YOU HEAR MARIAH CAREY ONCE EVERY HOUR YOU BEGIN TO WONDER WHERE IS THE LIFE IN TODAYS RADIO,THERE IS NO LIFE IN IT.. THE DJ’S ARE NOT REAL DJ’S THEY PLAY FROM A COMPUTER PLAY LIST WHICH ALREADY HAS THE TRACKS IN ORDER
Why mariah? When she released charmbracelet, she received far worse airplay than madonna.
It’s still all about the music. Mariah released a top quality album that is both mass-appealing and critically one of the best albums of 2005, having won album of the year in many award shows, including a win for best contemporary r&b album (like usher’s confessions and beyonce’s dangerously in love), and a nod for album of the year.
AS AMERICANS I THINK WE SHOULD BE SHAMED OF HOW NARROW MINDED OUR COUNTRY IS..
Actually, america is the only country that fosters multiple genres. America has supported fusion of different genres: hiphop/r&b, pop-r&b/hiphop, rock-hiphop, dance-hiphop etc. No country has produced musicians that are as creative lyrically and musically as the musicians of usa today. Music in america is dynamic, pliable, and without bounds. Unlike in other countries where music is stuck at pop. People here are now conscious of “talent”. If you’ve noticed, almost all new “entertainers” are skillfull singers. America has progressed from a country that once allowed regular people to become stars, to a place where you have to be many things at the same time.
This country is where real r&b and soul music thrive. No other country has supported this genre as religiously as USA.

Let me remind you of the 80s and early 90s madonna who practically is solely responsible for spreading that it’s ok to be sexual, kiss girls, and other forms of deviant sex.
Let me remind you of the madonna who wore the pointed bras… And now the leotards and panties, and spice girls-like costumes. Madonna is solely responsible for giving other artists the idea that music isn’t all about just music, that somehow “the thrill” in anyone’s image can send anyone to superstardom.
If you think about it… Madonna is the only superstar i know who became famous for unconventional ways. Be that as it may… Pop music was never the same after madonna became famous.
MADONNA IS MORE TALENTED THAN MARIAH…
Again, it depends on what you see is talent. But we can put it this way: Mariah rose to superstardom the way any gifted musician would: sing her way to the top. Madonna, on the other hand, shook the very foundations of music by becoming the 1st superstar to emerge on the strength of video-making, politicking, gimmicks, and controversies.
The Grammys seem to also see through Mariah’s flaws as sexy artist by giving her slots in the shortlists of major categories since her debut. She has raked the most recognitions, although not wins, after Aretha, and is one of the very few talented people in the world to win Grammys as a songwriter (Best r&b song), singer (Best pop and r&b vocals), producer (Best contemporary r&b album), and overall artistry (best new artist).
Madonna’s Grammy awards are also well-deserved, albeit her scanty nominations. Her greatest work, Ray of light, has given her two Grammy awards. Her video-making and “thrill factor” made her win her other 3 grammys, which were basically for her videos and remixes.
IS MADONNA THE BIGGEST SELLING ARTIST?
Madonna fans do have a point: she was after all, Guinness’ Most successful female artist of all time. While I agree with Guinness, it must be put into proper context. If you dissect sales record of every year since both their debuts, you’ll see that Madonna has NEVER topped a year-end chart, nor has she ever become the top-performing artist in any year, more so in any decade. Whereas Mariah Carey has been Artist of the Year thrice, for Mariah Carey, Daydream, and TEOM. She has also received the Best selling Album of the year twice, for Mariah Carey and TEOM. She is also the only female artist to have the #1 song of the year. All these achievements made her Artist of the Decade, and female artist of the millennium. Mariah has been cited as the most successful female artist of all time by Billboard, AMA, WMA, Capital FM (London), MTV Asia, Bambi (Germany), Lady of Soul, and a lot more. Madonna’s only citation for her lifetime work is from Guinness, MTV (as icon), WMA (Michael Jackson award), and TRL.
The only point that favors Madonna is her longer years in the music industry.

YES. MORE WAYS THAN ONE. AS A DANCER, AS AN ACTRESS (GOLDEN GLOBE WINNER) AS A BOOK WRITER, AS A DIRECTOR, AS A MODEL.
MARIAH CAN’T DANCE, MARIAH CANT ACT, SHE CAN’T EVEN DIRECT. MADONNA’S MUSIC HAS EVEN MORE POETIC CONTENT AND VARIES ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE UNLIKE MARIAH WHO ONLY TACKLES BROKENHEARTED LAME ASS SONGS. SHE HASNT EVEN DONE ANY SONG THAT TELLS OF HER MOM OR DAD.

AND MAY I SAY THAT HAVING “SONG OF THE YEAR” OR NUMEROUS NUMBER 1 SONGS IN THE US CHARTS DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU THE BIGGEST SELLING ARTIST OF ALL TIME (EXCPET FOR THE BEATLES AND ELVIS), THAT IS FOR THE CASE OF MARIAH ON MADONNA.
AND WHY ARE YOU JUST FOCUSING ON THE US BILLBOARD CHARTS? WELL YOU HAVE MACARENA FOR SONG OF THE YEAR BUT WHERE DOES THAT PUT LOS DEL RIO ON THE BIGGEST SELLING ARTIST LIST? HOW ABOUT WILSON PHILLIPS’ “HOLD ON” WHERE ARE THEY NOW? WHERE’S CHER NOW ON THE RIAA LIST WHEN SHE HAD “BELIEVE” AS SONG OF THE YEAR?, IT MUST BE A BAD DAY FOR THE ONE HIT WONDER DANIEL POWTER AS WELL?
POINT IS YOU DONT NEED TO HAVE NUMBER 1 SINGLES ON THE US CHARTS JUST TO BE CALLED BIGGEST SELLING ARTIST.

AND I DONT EVEN SEE MICHAEL JACKSON HAVING THE SONG OF THE YEAR ON ANY DECADE CHARTS BUT HELL HE’S WAY TOO FAMOUS THAN ALL OTHER ARTISTS THAT HAD SONG OF THE YEAR ON BILLBOARD.
YOU CANT ACCEPT THAT EVEN IN THE RIAA MADONNA TOPS MARIAH ON SALES, IN ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD MADONNA IS MORE DOMINANT THAN MARIAH, YOU CANT DENY AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THEIR CONCERT SALES AND ALBUM SALES.
I THINK IT’S ABOUT TIME WE SHOULD NOT FOCUS OUR BIGGEST SELLING ISSUE ON THE US CHARTS DORK.
MADOONA RULES, MARIAH IS JUST HER MAJESTY’S BITCH. ACCEPT IT.
AND PLEASE WE SHOULD NOT MAKE MADONNA’S LONGER STAY ON MUSIC INDSUTRY AS AN EXCUSE VERSUS MARIAH JUST TO CLAIM MADONNA SELLS MORE. HELL ARETHA FRANKLIN HAS BEEN HERE LIKE FOREVER BUT MADONNA HAS EXCEEDED HER SALES. I WOULD BE MORE IMPRESSED IF MARIAH WOULDVE ‘PRESUMEABLY” EXCEEDED MADONNA’S SALES RECORD DESPITE THE GAPS IN YEARS IN THE MUSIC SCENE.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, FOR MARIAH FANS, MADONNA IS STILL BIGGER THAN MARIAH. BOO HOO.
AND PLEASE WHOEVER SAID THAT MARIAH IS US BILLBOARDS MOST SUCCESSFUL FEMALE ARTIST. SHAME ON YOU! THE LAST TIME I HEARD MADONNA HAS MORE TOP 10 SINGLES THAN ANY SOLO ARTIST ON BILLBOARDS 50TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL.
ACTUALLY MADONNA HAS NOW 37 TOP TENS IN THE US CHARTS. IN THE UK CHARTS HOW DOES MARIAH FARE? PALE IN COMPARISON

How Lambs @ Mariah;s fans could claim she is more talented than Madonna while everyone knows she has managed to produce only 1 hit album worldwide for the last 10 years + 4 flopped albums (G)litter, Charmsh**celet, K=Fc2 and Memoirs of An Old Angel in ger entire career? Plus, she cant even fill up a basketball arena?
Mariah’s tickets sales reflect her music in global standard.

Mariah Carey relies so much on backup tracks and her secret it out recently. She’s just a studio recording singer..nothing more..nothing less.

Why do fans of one group have to resort to trashing the other just to make themselves feel better? The truth is that Mariah and Madonna are completely different artists, talented in different ways, and have both had incredible success and an incredible impact on the music world. Both are household names and both have made (and I suspect both will continue to make) timeless music.
