The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson rang them to say he’s rooting for ‘American Idol’ contestant Justin Guarini. Jackson is certainly familiar with Guarini’s biological dad, former Atlanta police chief and Jackson appointee Eldrin Bell. Meanwhile, the booted EJay Day performed ‘Dream Girls’ at the Fox Theatre on Wednesday.

July 26, 2002 – ‘American Idol’ finalists Nikki McKibbin, Ryan Starr, Justin Guarini, RJ Helton, Christina Christian, Kelly Clarkson, and Tamyra Gray attended the grand opening of Chef Charlie Palmer’s new special events and catering venue ‘Astra West’ at the Pacific Design Center on Thursday, July 25th in West Hollywood, California. The opening of Astra West will benefit Voices in Harmony, a nonprofit organization.
Part Of Simon Cowell Is Just English Humor
July 26, 2002 – Entertainment Tonight will focus on ‘American Idol’ judge Simon Cowell tonight and he has an unlikely defender in fellow judge and on-air nemesis Randy Jackson. “Part of it’s his personality, part of it’s his English humor,” Jackson says. “You can say to someone in England, ‘Oh my god, you’re fat, get off the TV,’ and people will die laughing. Over here, people will be like, ‘You know what? That wasn’t really a nice thing to say.’ [His] criticism is only a small glimpse of what people will get facing the public.”
Justin Guarini Has Some Serious Ego Issues
July 18, 2002 – Jessica Shaw of Entertainment Weekly weighed in after last night’s ‘American Idol’ episode with thoughts on why judge Simon Cowell was absent and why did they pick the losers out instead of picking out those who advance. Of course the two that did get the boot were EJay Day and Jim Verraros. Shaw says her top two picks are Tamyra Gray and Justin Guarini. On the latter, she said, “I’m realizing that Justin has some serious ego issues. He acts so humble and thanks the judges profusely, but when the losers were announced tonight he sat alone and smugly smiled. Of course, having a big ego never hurt a pop star.” Read more.
