Elmer Ploetz of the Buffalo News was on hand as Avril Lavigne performed before approximately 600 high school students at Dunkirk High School after the school won the concert through a radio station contest, submitting 949,257 index cards to be sent overseas to show support for U.S. military personnel. For Dunkirk High School Principal Daniel Genovese, what was great was the way the school pulled together to win the concert. “Just the dedication and commitment to following through on a goal, these are important things, the messages we give kids,” he said after the show. “We want them to feel that there’s no holding them back. There’s not a “no can do’ attitude. They can certainly do it.”
