A source from Esther’s Haircutting Studio in Tarzana confirmed to ‘Access Hollywood’ that they are planning to sell the hair Britney Spears shaved from her head on eBay. They will donate a portion of the hair collected from the crop to the Britney Spears Foundation, which was the salon’s own idea.
Meanwhile, the hair appears to be offered up for sale now for a likely unrealistic price of $1 million, with no mention of any proceeds going to any charity. There has been a bid (since removed), but high profile auctions like this without bidding restrictions are known to invite bidders who never end up paying.
Update: The auction may be in violation of eBay’s terms. While human hair for lockets is mentioned as an exception in the site’s restrictions against sale of body parts, the idea of selling an identified persons hair, and the DNA that goes along with it, may raise privacy concerns, especially given the ability to test hair for illegal drug use. We have contacted eBay for clarification on this matter.
