Maureen O’Brien of HarperCollins spoke with Liz Smith of The New York Post about why a book deal with Mariah Carey was nixed. O’Brien says she and her publisher, Michael Morrison, had absolutely no qualms about the quality of what Mariah was peddling. “Her book proposal was absolutely fantastic,” she said. “We were enthusiastic and remained so until [Carey’s new manager Benny] Medina stepped in two weeks after the deal was struck and pulled the plug.”
