I got myself a copy of ‘B in the Mix: The Remixes’ the day it came out. It’s the worst CD ever (next only, of course, to Madonna’s ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’). Anyway, I got it just to complete my Britney Spears collection. No pictures, no good new songs… really, NO one likes remix albums. Looking at my Spears collection made me reminisce about the good ol’ days: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. These were the great Britney years! The first three now-classic CDs, the rivalry with Christina Aguilera (whom I detest but also miss), the romance with Justin Timberlake, etc., etc. These were great years for other pop artists too: the now-hateful Madonna was at the peak and top of her game with the ‘Ray of Light’ and ‘Music’ CDs, the Backstreet Boys were huge, boy bands were in and the Latino artists like J.Lo and Ricky Martin were hot. What a great time for pop music and Britney was Queen! Then of course we all knew what followed: ugly hip hop and R&B ‘artists’ ruled the charts, Britney (and X-Tina) went astray, the Madonna Kiss of Death, the Jason Alexander wedding, K-Fed, Chaotic and the flops. The Pop Princess became Trailer Trash Queen. Here’s what we’re praying for: the dumping of K-Fed, personal rehabilitation and image make-over, and a fantastic pop CD which will lead the way to a great comeback. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But let’s admit it, we ALL miss Britney Spears. I really do.
