Douglas Perry of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson is convinced that show helped break down potential misconceptions rather than build them up. “Look at me. I’m from Texas and I’m white, so what does everybody think I’m going to sing?” she says. “Country. I love country to death, but I’m too into bluesy. I love Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Reba McEntire. Reba’s country, but she’s also got a lot of soul. Soulful and bluesy, that’s what I’m all about.”
