Natalie Nichols of LA CityBeat shared her thoughts on how she’s become “suddenly, horrifyingly, obsessed with ‘American Idol’.” Nichols writes, “For me, it’s a sick fascination with AI’s bizarre combination of cheesiness and cruelty: playing the most painfully amateurish of the early auditions for laughs… having the loser of the week perform, one last time, the tune that got him/her voted out… letting Simon excoriate contenders for the same traits he’d previously praised (although I’m well sick of Chris Daughtry’s angst-rock shtick too) … making the contestants work with Barry Manilow.”
