USA Today reports the intense media spotlight given to the Michael Jackson molestation case wasn’t limited to 24-hour cable news: The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today all reflected widespread media interest when they put Jackson’s planned surrender on charges of child molestation at the top of the front page in their Thursday editions. ”He’s an important figure in American culture,” Times editor Bill Keller says. ”The fact that he happens to be a staple of the tabloid and gossip columns doesn’t mean that when real news happens to him, you sort of exile him to the back pages.” Read more.
